re-de-sing by Cathy Whitlock.
Happy Friday friends. Yesterday I mentioned an amazing book that I am currently reading. I embarked on a research journey a while back. I joined the FADA Library at the University of Johannesburg as an Alumni member and that is where I found this book: re-de-sign: New directions for your interior design career by Cathy Whitlock.
This book explores the varied paths and diverse backgrounds of professional designers. Different chapters focus on various design disciplines, using the six P’s: The Profession, The Process, The Preparation, The Pay and the Profiles.

Hi there friends, how are you all today? This week has just whizzed by. Do you sometimes feel like that? Like there are just too many things to do and simply not enough hours in the week? In truth, I do try to squeeze every drop out of every hour and have ten things on the go at any given time. I believe in living in the moment and making things happen. I am currently reading a book on designers that have redesigned their careers to be more than just a designer or decorator. I call this having a portfolio career. It is a fascinating read and is really inspiring me. I can’t wait to tell you all about it. Often I find that people are unhappy and complain about their situation, but do nothing to amend the situation. It is a very sad thing when someone does not live up to their potential. I see so many people who could be so much more. They could be great, but instead they settle for mediocrity. Portfolio living can be tiring though. When I find it all gets too much, I rest (I try to at least). And I look to a few of the greats for inspiration; someone like Cecil Beaton.

Morning friends. It’s hump day! This week feels super strange. Mondays’ public holiday has thrown me off completely. But I am not complaining, a short week is always great. Are you guys back in the swing of things yet? My week has kicked of with a punch and a zing. I have plunged back in to work and other tasks. The silver lining however, is that I have a guest post up at The design tabloid today!

Morning friends. It’s nice to be back after a restful long weekend. We escaped to Dullstroom for a weekend of chilling, reading, fishing and fun. It was just what the doctor ordered. We have a bit of a busy/ stressful time ahead of us- lots of big changes, plenty to do, things to plan and just being on the go. So this break was just the ticket.

Morning friends. I hope I find you all happy and healthy today? For my friends in South Africa today is more like a Friday, as we have yet another two public Holidays coming up. It’s finally Easter and we have a nice loooong weekend ahead of us. I cannot wait to break away for the weekend. The year kicked off with a bang, and seems to have gone into hyper drive. We are going to Dullstroom for Easter with friends. I am looking forward to slowing down, resting, reconnecting, unwinding and just being…

Hello there friends. What a great morning. Today was the photo shoot day! And I am really happy to report that it went well. I was a bit nervous. Shooting your own project is somehow different from shooting for a magazine. It’s actually quite personal, and I found myself thinking a lot about what I want to portray; what story am I telling here. When you shoot for a magazine the questions is more: How can I accurately interpret the brief? What is this article all about. But today I styled my own home and probably my most intensive design project to date. It’s never quite done, is it?

Morning friends and welcome to Travel Tuesday. The Artist’s Way (the creative recovery course that I have been facilitating for the last 12 weeks) came to an end yesterday. We ended on such a high note, with an evening celebrating our individual creative journeys to recovery and how far we have come. We were each tasked with making a mood board to show what we have learnt from these 12 weeks. And it was amazing. It is so special to walk hand in hand trough a friend and fellow artist’s life. Witnessing their trials, tribulations, joy’s and defeats. It is a brave person indeed that can bare their souls like that. We are a close group and have shared many special moments during the course.

Morning friends. It’s a chilly morning in Johannesburg and I think it’s safe to say that it is now officially Autumn. All previous musings of seasonal change might have been slightly premature. This weekend was definitely on the cooler side and I found myself digging through my winter wardrobe for closed shoes. Today’s brisk morning just confirms my suspicions. The good news is that Autumn also heralds the arrival of Easter weekend. The weather might be a dab dreary, but why not spice things up with a beautiful Easter table this weekend? Florists still have a great variety of blooms. This is the perfect chance to bid the last rays of Summer farewell and welcome the beauty that is Autumn.
